Overall objective:
To improve the health, sanitary conditions, and safety of children living in the informal settlement of Mathare in Nairobi through the provision of an environment that is conducive to their health, education, and rights.
Purpose
The purpose of the project is:
- To ensure access to basic sanitation infrastructure among children living in Mathare.
- To provide safe and balanced meals for children living in Mathare.
- To create educational spaceS which will stimulate ECD children development in 4 ECDs in Mathare.
- To increase access to high quality health education among children in Mathare.
- To increase knowledge about health, hygiene and nutrition of ECD children among parents and local authorities.
Main Action
- Construction of toilets for girls and boys at Daima ECD center
- Renovation of toilets for girls and boys at Salama and Valley Bridge ECD centers
- Construction of water harvesting systems at Kiboro, Daima, Salama, Huruma, Ndururuno and Valley Bridge ECD centers
- Construction of kitchens and dining areas at Daima and Salama ECD center
- Construction of ECD playgrounds at Daima, Huruma, Valley Bridge, Mathari and Kiboro Primary School
- Equipping teachers with knowledge on child health, hygiene and nutrition at 7 ECD centers in Mathare
- Health education for children, parents, and community members of Mathare slums
